- One honey bee colony has a foraging range of 18,000 acres
- It takes 12 bees their entire lifetime to make just one teaspoon of honey.
- Honey bees visit 2 million flowers to make one pound of honey
- Field/foraging bees visit 50 to 100 flowers during each trip.
- Honey bees fly 12 and 15 miles per hour.
- Honey bees flap their wings 12,000 times per minute.
- Honey bees are covered in hairs designed to trap pollen. Even their eyes have hair on them! As they collect pollen for their hive the bees bodies transfer it from flower to flower and that’s how pollination occurs.
- Honey is essentially dehydrated nectar from flowers. Bees eat honey and pollen from flowers. They ferment the pollen first and mix it with honey in order to be able to digest it.
- One honey bee hive visits about 225,000 flowers per day.
- A strong hive may contain up to 60,000 honey bees.
- All the worker bees are female. The drones or male bees have only one job and that is to mate with the queen. The drone mates one time then he dies… sad but true!
- The queen bee can mate with up to 45 drones. But the average number is 13.

New Title… Edited Tag
It just occurred to me that my assignment was not complete. Although I had a new title and tag I hadn’t BLOGGED! Forgive me… still getting into things!
I thought BeeAttitudes was appropriate because of the amazing features of the bee hive and the attitudes we could adopt… and I’m still learning! They are so organized, so methodical, so selfless… to death… and all working together for the hive. We could learn a thing or two. Of course the name is taken from the Beatitudes that provide a guide for me as a Christian.
The tag is a shortened (and I hope more meaningful!) one than what I had previously.
Could I have some feedback please?
Introductions
Hello everyone! I’m Lennox… Beekeeper, business person and Lecturer (actually there’s more but that can come later.. lol)! I’ve had so much to say for so long that its going to take a while even getting my thoughts together. I can say though, that I’m glad to get a “push” to start blogging! Thanks WordPress!
For starters, I’m passionate about nature, protection of the environment and getting/keeping healthy, all of which has probably lead me into beekeeping. I’ve recently developed an enthusiasm for entrepreneurship.
My blogging will more than likely relate to one of these but sometimes the mind does wander so don’t hold me to that!
I’m excited though and just hope I can keep up, because I have a very busy schedule!
